  43 .Pa /etc/phones
  44 contains the system-wide
  45 private phone numbers for the

  48 This file is normally unreadable, and so may contain
  49 privileged information.
  50 The format of the file is a series of lines
  51 of the form: <system-name>[\ \et]*<phone-number>.
  52 The system name is
  53 one of those defined in the
  54 .Xr remote 5
  55 file and the phone number is constructed from any sequence of
  56 characters terminated only by ``,'' or the end of the line.
  57 The ``='' and ``*'' characters are
  58 indicators to the auto call units to pause and wait for a second dial
  59 tone (when going through an exchange).

  62 and the ``*'' is required by the
  63 .Tn BIZCOMP
