3 To delete the persistent volume of a Tails device, choose

8 on the <span class="guilabel">Delete</span> button.
10 This can be useful in order to delete all the files saved to the persistent
11 volume in a single operation. You can later create a new persistent volume on
12 the same device without having to reinstall Tails.
14 Securely delete the persistent volume

19 <strong>The previous technique might not prevent an attacker from recovering the files in the
20 old persistent volume using [[data
21 recovery techniques|encryption_and_privacy/secure_deletion#why]].</strong>
22 To securely delete the persistent volume, start Tails from another media, and do the following
23 operations on the device that you want to delete securely:
26 <li>[[Format the device and create a single encrypted partition|encryption_and_privacy/encrypted_volumes]]
27 on the whole device. This step deletes both Tails and the persistent volume.</li>
28 <li>[[Securely clean all the available disk
29 space|encryption_and_privacy/secure_deletion#clean_disk_space]] on this new encrypted
31 <li>[[Reinstall Tails|installation]] on the device.</li>
32 <li>Start Tails from the device and [[create a new persistent
33 volume|persistence/configure]].</li>
